inFrom my trips, I've found that keeping and using tough old camping gear helps the earth more than always grabbing the latest green items. My sleeping bag from college still works great.
Yeah, that old gear loyalty is totally the move.

inSerious question, my cousin keeps saying my job isn't a 'proper' career
Man, that school system point is huge. We spent years being told college degrees were the only path to good work, so now folks look down on trades without seeing what they actually do. Jake's uncle probably pictured some kid pushing a mower, not someone designing spaces that change family life. Makes you wonder how many other jobs get misunderstood because of old ideas.

inWhy does nobody mention how wind ruins mortar consistency?
In coastal areas, I've had success by mixing under a pop-up canopy (the cheap kind from the hardware store). The shade and wind block make a huge difference.

inSwitched to pre-soaking seized bolts before every job, and I haven't broken one in months!
@hall.mary, you're spot on about the penetrant trick! I learned the hard way too when I tried to force a rusty suspension bolt and sheared it clean off. Now I spray everything down the night before, even on simple jobs like brake pads. Last weekend, some seized lug nuts came off without a fight after a good soak. I used to waste so much time drilling out broken bolts, but now I avoid that mess entirely. It's a game changer for sure!

inNeed a one-stop shop for mortgage, insurance, etc.
Hold up! Everyone's talking about upfront savings, but what about the long haul? A lower interest rate saves way more than a one-time fee cut. For example, on a $300k loan, even half a percent less means thousands over 30 years. Also, check for prepayment penalties. Some lenders charge you if you pay off early. That stuff adds up.
