That dental rinse warning label meant my taste buds, not my gums

I read the back of my mouthwash last Tuesday while waiting for coffee to brew. It said to stop use if you notice changes in taste, which I figured was about the product tasting bad. Turns out chlorhexidine can kill your taste buds for hours, and I found out during a work lunch when my sandwich tasted like cardboard. The dentist never mentioned this when he prescribed it after a deep cleaning back in January. I had 3 cups of coffee trying to taste something, then gave up and ate plain crackers just to confirm I still had a tongue. Anyone else get stuck with a prescription rinse that ruined their meals for weeks?
