Shoutout to the hotel lobby clock that kept me calm
Last month I stayed at the Marriott in Portland for a work thing. My flight got delayed 4 hours and I was about to lose it, but they had this huge analog clock in the lobby and I just sat there watching it. Turns out staring at something slow can actually lower your heart rate when you're all wound up. Has anyone else used a random object in a stressful spot to just breathe and reset?
Used to roll my eyes at stuff like that, figured a clock is just a clock and calming down was all in your head. Then I got stuck in a waiting room for two hours with a bad phone and ended up watching this dumb little fish tank, and my chest actually loosened up. Something about a slow, steady thing pulls you out of your own spiral.
