Hit 1,000 miles on my new OC commute route, big surprise

I switched from the 405 to surface streets through Costa Mesa last month to dodge the tolls. After logging exactly 1,000 miles on this path, my gas bill dropped $42 and my blood pressure actually feels lower. Anyone else find a slower side-street route that beats the freeway in a real way?
