I took a pottery class at 47 and my hands still smell like clay
Last month I signed up for a 6 week beginner wheel class at MudWorks Studio in Portland. I figured it would be calming, but my first bowl collapsed twice and I nearly quit after session 3. Then I stopped trying to make it perfect and just let the clay wobble, and somehow that lopsided thing became my favorite mug. Has anyone else hit a point where giving up on control actually made the hobby stick?
Honestly that first collapsed bowl sounds like it was just teaching you a lesson the hard way. I've noticed the hobbies that actually stick are the ones where you stop trying to be good at them and just enjoy being bad at them for a while. A wonky mug you made yourself beats a perfect one from a store every time.
