Rant: My new laser level for hanging shelves is a total letdown.

I got a laser level to make hanging shelves straight in my home office. The beam is so faint I can barely see it in daylight. Do all laser levels have this problem, or did I get a bad one?

Nobody mentions how much the wall color matters with those things. A white wall in sunlight just swallows the beam up. Test it on something dark or in lower light.

Heard about this from a friend who set up a home theater. Honestly, @paige562 is spot on about white walls washing out the image. I read that darker walls actually reflect light better for projectors, which sounds wrong but makes sense. Tbh, testing in low light first saves so much hassle. Ngl, I almost returned my projector before trying a gray wall instead.

My old apartment had cream colored walls that made my projector look washed out. I grabbed a cheap black fabric from a craft store and pinned it up. The image popped so much more, especially during daytime. Honestly, skipping the white wall test saved me from returning my unit too. It's one of those things you don't realize until you see it side by side.
