Update: Forgot to return a borrowed book and now I feel awful about it.
Just realized that keeping it quiet made the whole thing way more complicated than if I'd just said something.

Totally get what you mean about keeping it quiet making everything more complicated. It's ALWAYS better to just speak up, even if it's awkward. I borrowed a cookbook from my neighbor and completely forgot about it for months. I kept avoiding her because I felt guilty, and it made our interactions SO weird. When I finally apologized and gave it back, she was just glad I said something. The guilt was WAY worse than the actual conversation.

Tell them anyway because the build-up feels way worse than the actual talk.

My old roommate still has a sweater of mine from like three years ago. I kept putting off asking for it back because I felt dumb for waiting so long. That tiny thing made me avoid texting her for months, which is crazy. The whole time I was just making up stories in my head about her being mad. When I finally sent a dumb "hey lol" text, she had totally forgotten about it. It happens with everything, from small stuff to big talks. The waiting and worrying always makes it a bigger deal than it actually is.

Always thought avoiding was best, but @angela_knight3 showed me guilt is worse.
