Can we talk about when I choose convenience over composting?

Tossing food scraps feels lazy, but setting up a bin is a hassle.

A small plastic tub on my counter made it way easier than a full bin setup.

Your counter has a tub on it all the time?

Wait, so you just leave the tub out? Like, right next to the sink or something? What about fruit flies or the smell? I tried that once and it got gross fast. Do you just empty it like, every single day?

The mental energy of deciding what counts as compostable is its own chore (and sometimes you just need to dump a plate without a full forensic review). That constant little choice, on top of the mess factor, is what makes the bin setup feel huge. A counter tub fixes the physical part, but not the tiny brainwork tax every time you scrape leftovers. For me, letting go of perfect composting weeks actually kept me trying more often than giving up totally. Guilt’s a bad long-term motivator compared to just doing it when you realistically can.
