Watching a total stranger help a lost kid at the grocery store flipped a switch in my head

I was grabbing milk at the Kroger on 5th Street when a little girl, maybe 4 years old, started crying because she couldn't find her mom. This guy in a flannel shirt just knelt down, talked to her calmly, and walked her to customer service without a second thought. It hit me right then that most people are actually good and want to help, I'd just been focusing on the loud, bad news for years. Anyone else have a small moment that totally rewired a big belief for them?

Yeah, it's wild how one tiny thing can change your whole outlook. I started noticing those small good acts everywhere once I looked for them.

You saying it flipped a switch is so true. I had a similar thing last week when my neighbor, who I barely talk to, brought my trash cans up the driveway in the rain. It was such a small thing, but it made me realize I'd built up this idea that everyone just keeps to themselves. Now I catch myself seeing those quiet good acts all the time, like someone holding a door from far away.

It's like @the_linda said, once you see one good thing you start seeing them everywhere. People are just quietly decent most of the time.
