My first art tablet pen broke after 3 weeks, did I get a bad one?

Bought a cheap drawing pad last month to try digital painting, the stylus started jumping around and losing pressure after maybe 15 hours of use. I know budget gear has limits but this felt like a defect. Contacted the seller, they said it's normal wear and tear. Anyone else have a stylus die that fast, or should I just save up for something better?

No way that thing is defective. 15 hours on a budget stylus is actually pretty standard, most of them use cheap parts that wear out fast. The seller probably isn't lying when they say it's normal, the whole pen is built to be disposable at that price point. You can't expect premium build quality from something that costs less than a pizza. And honestly the pressure sensor on those cheap ones is basically a tiny plastic piece that rubs against itself, of course it's gonna go wonky after a while. The jumpy cursor and lost pressure is just what happens when the nib gets a little loose, it's not a manufacturing mistake. You got what you paid for, that's just the reality of the budget tablet game.

It's like so many things now, isn't it? Everything's built to be replaced instead of fixed. I've seen it with headphones, phone chargers, even kitchen gadgets where the cheap version breaks in a month and the next one up lasts years. The trick is figuring out where that line is, and sometimes you just gotta eat the cost to learn it. Used to be you'd buy something and expect it to work for a while, but now it's all planned for the short game. Your pen crapping out that fast is frustrating, but it sounds like the seller gave you a real answer, just not the one you wanted. Save up if you can, but maybe look for a mid-range one used, that's worked better for me than buying new budget stuff every few weeks.
