Color grading shortcuts I wish I'd found 5 years ago
Spent last week redoing an old portfolio piece and finally tried matching skin tones by sampling the highlight instead of the midtone. It cut my edit time from 3 hours to about 45 minutes. Has anyone else had a 'why didn't I try this sooner' moment with their process?

Sampling the highlight makes so much sense and now I'm annoyed I never thought of it. The highlight usually has the cleanest version of the skin color before shadows muddy it up, so you're basically working from a truer starting point. I've been doing something close but on the cheek bone area where the light hits first, and it saved me a ton of back and forth too. Next step for me is building a little reference swatch of skin tones from shoots I like, so I can compare instead of guessing every single time.
