The $40 breather filter I rigged in Denver saved my turbo from a 3-hour regen cycle
Used to let the crankcase vent dump straight into the intake and got sooted up every winter until I put a cheap oil catch can setup with a drain valve in my 2012 Cummins, now I check it every oil change and it's been 8 months with zero buildup, has anyone else tried this on a road truck that idles a lot in cold weather?

... and honestly the catch can debate reminds me of when I ran a straight pipe on my old 6.0 and thought I was slick until the EGR clogged so bad I had to pull the cab off. The drain valve thing is smart though, my buddy swears by it on his grain truck that sits in -10 weather for hours at the co-op, says it's night and day compared to just letting it vent. If it's been 8 months and you're still clean, you're basically winning the cold idle game.
