Tried that new CoStar listing service for my shop on Gratiot...
I signed up for that CoStar listing service thinking it'd bring in some fresh foot traffic to my hardware store on Gratiot. Paid $200 for the first month and got maybe 2 extra customers out of it, both of whom just came in for directions. Honestly learned that throwing money at listing sites doesn't beat just talking to your regulars.

Whoa, hold on, you paid $200 for that? Man, they got you good. I've been through the exact same thing with a different listing site a few years back. The problem is those "views" are mostly bots or people who clicked by accident. The real trick is what you already figured out: just talk to your regulars. Ask them what they need, give them a small discount for referrals, and put a sign in the window. That $200 would have paid for a week of flyers in the neighborhood or a couple of coffees for the mailman who talks to everyone. Don't feel bad, we've all learned that lesson the hard way.

Did you track how many people actually saw your listing versus just walked past your shop anyway? Seems like they're selling you on "exposure" but it might just be numbers on a screen.
