Hit 100 small business clients filing alone and almost missed a major tax deadline

I crossed 100 clients this tax season and the paperwork avalanche nearly buried me, especially with all the new Michigan e-filing rules for 2024. Has anyone else hit a client count where you realized you needed to hire help immediately?

Did you consider a virtual assistant or just a part time bookkeeper? I hit 85 last year and thought I could handle it, but the month end reconciliations and client portal messages piled up fast. A part timer three days a week saved my sanity, especially with Michigan's new e-file extension rules and the extra W-2 verification steps for 2024. The key was handing off the data entry and letting myself focus on the complicated returns and client strategy.

Eighty five clients with Michigan's new e-file extension rules and extra W-2 steps? That sounds like a nightmare honestly. I can't believe you even made it to 85 before breaking. I was drowning at 60 last year and my state didn't change anything that complicated. Handing off data entry is smart though, that stuff eats up so much time you don't even realize until you stop doing it. Three days a week for a part timer seems like the sweet spot.

@the_elliot 85 clients is nothing if you have good systems. I handle more solo.
