The towel rack that exposed my whole system after 9 months

I kept 14 identical towels stacked in my hall closet because I thought rotating them evenly made sense, but last week the top one fell off the rack mid-reach and I saw the bottom 12 were still folded with the tags on. My roommate laughed and said I was just hoarding potential towels instead of using them, and honestly the tags proved it. How do you decide when a neat stack is actually just a pile of stuff you'll never touch?
