My neighbor in Tulsa said to try the 12-12-12 rule on my closet, and it worked better than any app
She said grab 12 items, give away 12, and toss 12 in one sitting, and I cleared 3 trash bags from my closet in about 40 minutes. Has anyone tried a set number like that instead of the whole "does it spark joy" thing?
The number thing works because it gives your brain a finish line. When you just say clean until it feels right you never actually stop, you just get tired and quit halfway. I do 10-10-10 in the kitchen every few months and it takes maybe half an hour. The count keeps you moving instead of sitting there holding a shirt for five minutes asking if you love it. Spark joy is fine for people with tons of free time but most of us just need a dumb rule that gets it done.
