The parking garage exit line that exposed a 15 minute lie

I sat at the gate at the Elmwood Park garage for 12 minutes last Tuesday before realizing the app I was using doesn't actually reserve a spot, it just holds a ticket you still have to pay for at the machine. People kept honking like I was the problem, but the real issue is the fine print nobody reads, including the 47 other cars behind me. Why do we trust these apps to simplify things when they just add a step that didn't exist before? Has anyone else hit this exact trap, or am I the only one who didn't scroll down to the FAQ?
