Pro tip: a guy at the print shop in Boise said my side project looked like "a hobby hiding from a real job," so I changed one thing
I run a small zine on the side, about 30 copies a month, and my day job is doing layout for a commercial printer. I never mixed them. Kept the zine in a separate notebook, different fonts, the works.
He looked at two issues on my desk and said the separate notebook was the problem. My best work was hiding in the thing I did for money. So I started using the same grid and the same cheap paper stock for both. Turns out the zine got way better and the day job got less boring. Same skill, one place.
Curious if anyone else stopped keeping the two sides of their life in separate boxes. Where's the line for you?
