Rubbed a balloon on my hair to show a kid static, but it stuck to the wall for 40 minutes and now I have a silly idea
So last Tuesday I was babysitting my niece, she's 7, and she asked me why her hair sticks up when she pulls off her winter hat. I grabbed a balloon from her party stash, rubbed it on my head for like 10 seconds, and stuck it on the hallway wall to show her static cling as a joke. I figured it would fall in a few seconds and we would laugh and move on. That balloon was still stuck there when her mom got home 40 minutes later. I checked it with my hand a couple times and it felt totally normal, not sticky or anything. It finally dropped about an hour in, and I have not stopped thinking about why it held on that long. My guess is the dry air in the house plus the paint on that wall, but I honestly do not know. Does static charge really last that long on a balloon, or was something else going on there?
