Rain sounds used to annoy me, now I can't sleep without them

I always thought rain noise was just background static until I tried a 2 hour storm track on a camping trip last month. That recording with actual thunder and dripping off leaves felt way more real than the white noise app I'd used for years. Now I'm wondering if the imperfections are what make it relaxing, does anyone else prefer the messy versions too?

The messy recordings are the only ones that work for me now. I tried going back to my old white noise app after hearing a thunderstorm track and it just felt flat and fake. Little sounds like rain hitting a porch or wind in the trees keep my brain busy enough to actually shut down.
