Is the 2 minute rule actually better than just writing the task down at 10pm?
My sink full of dishes from Monday sat for 2 days, but after I told myself to just do 2 minutes of scrubbing while my coffee brewed, I finished the whole load in 6, so is the real win the starting momentum or the false promise that you'll actually stop at 2 minutes?

That 6 minutes beats 2 by a long shot, so the rule is really just a trick to get your foot in the door. The momentum part is where the actual win lives, because once you're moving, your brain usually says "might as well finish." The false promise is what gets you started, but the real payoff is that you rarely stop at the timer.
