I stopped asking for one big writing prompt and started stacking 3 small ones instead
Last week I sat down to write for the first time in about 6 weeks and my usual move was to hunt for one perfect prompt, something with meat on it. I ended up scrolling for 90 minutes and wrote nothing. So I flipped it. I pulled three tiny prompts instead, one for a place, one for an object, one for a line of dialogue, and stacked them on top of each other. In 45 minutes I had a rough scene that I actually liked, and I never would have gotten there chasing one grand idea. The problem with the big prompt is that it asks you to carry the whole story on your shoulders. Three small ones give you handholds. A prompt does not have to be a whole story, it can just be one brick. Does anyone else here stack smaller prompts, or am I the odd one out on this?
