Showerthought: the week I stopped emailing other creatives and just started calling them
Back in 2019 I was freelancing out of a co-working spot in Portland and spending probably 2 hours a day trading emails with other designers and illustrators. One Tuesday this guy named Derek just called me out of nowhere about a logo gig, and we sorted the whole thing in 11 minutes. That same week I tried calling instead of emailing three other people I'd been going back and forth with, and every single one got sorted faster, like under 15 minutes each. I'd been treating email like it was the safe way to look busy, but it was really just me hiding from real talks. Now when something is fuzzy I just dial, and my reply time on actual client stuff went from days to hours. Has anyone else noticed the newer creatives in their circle almost never pick up the phone, or is it just the folks I run into?
