Vent: new guy on site said he skips the pre-lift check when the load is light
I was standing by the coffee truck at a job in Baton Rouge and heard a newer operator say he skips his pre-lift walk around whenever the pick is under 2,000 lbs because it saves him 5 minutes. I told him 5 minutes does not mean much when a rigging failure puts someone in the hospital. That same week on another site, a sling that looked fine from the cab was frayed right where it sits hidden behind the hook. What do you all say when a green operator argues with you about the morning check? I want a better way to get through to guys like him besides just repeating myself.
