Rant: my mannequin head finally paid for itself after 2 years in my garage
I bought a $40 mannequin head at a beauty supply place in Columbus about 2 years back and honestly it sat in my garage collecting dust until last week. I pulled it out to practice a stacked bob on a client who wanted a big change, and because I had already done that cut about 30 times on the head, I finished her hair in 45 minutes with zero fixing. Does anyone else keep a practice head around, or am I the only one who talks to a fake head at 10pm?
I read a thing on a hair forum where a stylist said her practice head saved her during a rush job too. She kept it on a stand in her laundry room and ran through stacked bobs and fades until her hands just knew the angles without thinking. That muscle memory deal is real, your hands learn the cut even when your brain is busy with a chatty client. Mine has a bald spot now from too much thinning practice but I still drag it out when a new trend drops.
