Pro tip: I read that the average salon client only rebooks 4 out of 10 times, and I started tracking my own numbers after that
I was flipping through a trade mag in the break room at my salon in Boise last month and hit a stat that bugged me: the average client only rebooks about 4 times out of 10 visits. I always figured I was way above that just because my chair stays busy, but busy and loyal are two different animals. So I grabbed a cheap notebook and started marking every client who walks out with a next appointment already on the books. Two weeks in, my real number was 6 out of 10, better than the stat but not as good as I was patting myself on the back about. The weird part is the clients who don't rebook are almost never unhappy, they just leave without a plan and then life gets in the way. I tried one small change, writing the next date on the back of my card before they even sit up from the shampoo bowl, and that alone pushed me to 8 out of 10. My coworker says I'm overthinking it and some clients just won't ever prebook, which is fair, but the math doesn't lie for my book. For those of you who track this stuff, do you count a rebook as a win even if they cancel later, or only if they actually show up?
