I dropped $400 on a ring light and backdrop kit for my channel and it did nothing for my views

So I want to be clear this is a small win post, but the win is that I finally stopped buying gear. Last spring I spent about $400 on one of those all in one ring light and backdrop kits because a guy in a Facebook group swore it was the reason his videos took off. I set the whole thing up in my spare room, moved my desk around for a weekend, and shot stuff for close to two months with it. My views were basically flat the whole time. What actually helped was posting at a steady time and cutting my intros down from 40 seconds to about 8. The light did make my face look better in thumbnails, I will give it that, but it did not bring a single new person in. If you are new and staring at a cart full of gear, hold off and spend that money on nothing for a while. Has anyone else bought a big setup item that turned out to be mostly decoration for their own room?
