Can we talk about editing presets that kill the actual story?

I watched a travel vlog from a buddy last week, every clip had that same teal and orange grade, even the rainy market shots looked like a movie poster. He spent 3 hours matching presets but the raw sound of the street vendors got buried under a music track. Why are we so scared to leave a frame looking flat and real instead of polishing every second into a fake vibe?
