Added 2 oz of retarder to my mix on a 95 degree day in Phoenix and the finish came out slick as glass
I was pouring a 12x20 patio slab last Friday and the mix started setting up on me way faster than I planned for. My buddy who runs a crew out in Mesa said to throw in 2 oz of retarder per yard, so I tried it on the second truck. Instead of fighting the cream the whole time, I got a full 40 extra minutes to work the edge and the broom finish came out way more even than the first half. I always figured retarder was for big commercial pours, but now I'm keeping a jug in the truck for anything over 90 degrees. What's your go to for hot weather pours, retarder or just waiting till evening?
