Used to keep a notebook of every client's IP scheme, now I pull it from a text file on my phone
For about 8 years I carried a little spiral notebook with every client's IP ranges, switch passwords, and VLAN numbers written in it. When I moved to doing more remote work in 2021, I started dumping those notes into a plain text file and syncing it with a free app so I could see it on my phone or laptop. Last month I drove 40 minutes to a site in Lansing only to find out the notebook was sitting on my desk at home while the text file had the info I needed the entire time. I still write down new stuff on paper first, then type it in when I get back to the truck. Part of me misses flipping through pages and spotting an old note in the margin. How do the rest of you keep client network info straight without dragging a paper notebook around?
