Hot take: I used to think thermal paste replacement was a scam, but after a system crash at a client's office in Phoenix last July with 105F ambient temps, I saw a 12C drop on a fresh application.

The CPU was throttling hard under load and after I swapped the paste and reseated the cooler the thing ran like new, has anyone else seen temps drop that much from just paste?

Has anyone tried the old arctic silver method where you spread it super thin with a credit card? I did that on an old gaming laptop that was hitting 95C and it dropped to 82C... honestly thought I broke something at first it was such a big difference. The trick for me was using way less than I thought I needed, like a grain of rice size and then letting it cure for a couple days before judging the temps. My buddy swears by the pea method in the center but that always leaves too much for me and I get worse results.

Makes me wonder how many "broken" things just need a fresh connection (people too, honestly).

Oh man, you're hitting a little too close to home there... I swear half my electronics just need the good old "unplug and plug back in" treatment. Probably says something about my own life too, honestly. Lost count of how many times I've had to reintroduce myself to someone I've known for years because I just wasn't connecting right the first time. Maybe that's why I still have that old lamp in the garage that flickers - figured it just needs a fresh socket. But then again, I'm probably the same way... just need someone to come along and tighten my loose bulb.
