That one dive sup who still thinks wire brush is optional
I was doing hull cleaning at the port in Norfolk last Tuesday, and the tender kept handing me a brush with zero bristles left. The sup said 'it's fine, just hit it harder' even though I could see bare steel. I spent an extra 40 minutes underwater scraping with my knife because the brush was useless. Has anyone else had a supervisor who just refuses to replace gear, or is that just my outfit?

That sup reminds me of a guy I had years back who insisted a battered pressure gauge was 'close enough'. Took me forever to convince him the reading was off by 15 psi, and honestly, I still double-check every gauge I touch now. @amy_anderson is smart to keep a spare, my backup was a piece of chalk I found in the truck for marking spots, which worked okay until it washed off. Sure, it's not the same as a good brush, but it taught me to always have a plan B that doesn't rely on the gear room.
