That 3 a.m. cold brew ratio discovery changed my whole routine
I stumbled on a video from a roaster in Portland last Tuesday about cold brew concentrate ratios, and they said most home setups use way too much water. I always did 1:5 coffee to water for 18 hours, thought it was perfect. Tried their 1:3.5 for just 14 hours on a whim with some Ethiopian beans I had lying around, and wow, the sweetness came out like crazy. No bitterness at all, just this smooth chocolatey thing I never got before. It uses more coffee so it costs about $4 more per batch for me, but I end up diluting it with milk anyway so it lasts the same. Has anyone else messed with lower ratios or shorter steeps, or am I late to this party too?
