Pro tip: my first for loop in Python finally clicked when I wrote one that prints 7 pizza toppings
Sat down at my kitchen table in Akron two Sundays ago with a free YouTube tutorial and typed my first real for loop, and now I want to know what tiny program made loops finally make sense for you.
Ha, pizza toppings is a solid choice for a first loop. I had a similar lightbulb moment but it was with a deck of cards, I was trying to deal hands for a dumb little poker game and kept copy pasting the same line over and over like an idiot. My buddy finally looked at my screen and just said "dude, that's what loops are for" and something in my brain just snapped into place. I think the trick is you gotta actually want the thing to happen, not just follow along with a tutorial that prints numbers 1 through 10. Once the loop is doing something you care about, even something stupid like dealing cards or listing pizza, it stops being abstract.
