Showerthought: maybe we overcomplicate tool offsets on new machines
Spent 4 hours yesterday chasing a 0.0015 taper on a simple bore because I assumed the new controller's offset logic was identical to our old ones. Anyone else get tripped up by 'improved' software that actually changes the basics?

Diameter for offsets? That's actually insane. I would have lost my mind trying to figure that out.

Read a forum post where a guy swore his new Fanuc used diameter for offsets while his old one used radius. Makes you double check the manual every time now.

Totally get that feeling of needing to double check the manual! I was the same way, always just assumed radius was the standard. Reading that kind of story makes you realize how easy it is to mess up a part. Wendy131 has a good point about checking the parameters, because it really can be set either way. I used to think it was always one method, but now I know you just can't trust the old habits. It's a good lesson to always verify the setup on a new machine.
