My neighbor called our machines 'glorified printers' and I lost it.
That kind of ignorance undermines years of training. I had to invite him over to see the setup just to prove how complex it really is.

Did he have any idea what he was looking at? Hope the tour at least made him feel a little dumb.

Honestly showing someone the setup isn't really about making them understand every detail. It's more about letting them see the skill involved so they get why it's not just a printer. Tbh if he respects the work now, that's a win.

Remember when I tried to show my dad the auto-bed leveling on my printer? I spent twenty minutes talking about sensor offsets and mesh grids. He just nodded and said it sounds like his old dot matrix. @emmahayes, that tour probably did more to confuse your neighbor than teach him. I bet he left thinking we're all just obsessed with very expensive paperweights. What did your guy say after seeing it all?

Actually the whole point is they DON'T need to get the details. My cousin saw my printer and just said "so you tell the computer to make a thing and it does?" That's the perfect takeaway. It's not about making them feel dumb, it's about showing the magic of the process. If they walk away thinking it's just a fancy paperweight, you explained it wrong. You gotta skip the mesh grid talk and just show the thing making a thing.
