Pro tip: check the firewall grommet before you chase electrical gremlins

I was at a shop in Dayton last Saturday and heard this older guy tell the owner his 70 Chevelle had a parasitic drain that ate two batteries in a month. They tested everything, alternator, wiring harness, even pulled the fuse box. Turned out the rubber grommet where the harness passes through the firewall had split and water got in, corroded three wires together. Cost him like 40 bucks in new wire and tape, but he spent almost 300 on diagnosis before someone looked at that little rubber piece. I went home and checked mine on the 66 Mustang, sure enough it was cracked too. Has anyone else had a dumb little grommet or seal cause a big headache like that?
