Why does nobody talk about reading your own city like a tourist map
I walked the same 6 blocks from my apartment to the train in Columbus for 2 years and barely saw any of it. Then my cousin visited and asked why I never mentioned the mural of the corn husker on the side of the laundromat, and I had no clue what she meant. Turned out I was staring at my phone the whole walk and missing a whole row of little shops and a bench where old guys play chess. Now I do one phone free walk a block out of my way each morning and it feels like a different town. What small thing near your place did you walk past for years without seeing?
Oh man, that corn husker mural was just sitting there judging you for two years huh? I did the same thing with a tiny ramen place near my old place, walked past it daily for like 3 years before a friend pointed it out and I felt like a complete idiot.
