Unpopular opinion: the guy selling tamales out of a cooler in my neighborhood changed how I see the walk to the train
For two years I walked past him at 5th and Main every morning without a word, but last Tuesday he handed me one free and said "you always look at the ground, look up, the buildings here are old but they're still standing," and now I actually notice the city instead of just moving through it.
Wrote that guy off as just another vendor trying to make a buck, honestly. But reading this made me realize I never once looked at his face or asked his name in the three years I've passed him. There's a lady who sells flowers near my stop and I bet she has stories too if I ever bothered to stop. Gonna say something to her tomorrow instead of just walking by.
