The community fridge on 5th that I never noticed until it broke

Last Tuesday I walked past that free fridge outside the co-op on 5th and someone had taped a sign saying it was out of order for a week. Turns out a motor gave up and nobody had a spare part. I'd walked by that thing maybe 300 times over two years and never once used it, but the moment it went dark I felt this weird loss. A neighbor started a fix-it night at the library and we got it running by Saturday with a $14 capacitor. Anyone else realize they only value a spot after it stops working?
