I called the $12 tamales outside the Fremont troll a tourist trap for 2 years
Every time I drove past that little cart by the Fremont troll I figured it was just a $12 trap for people who came to take selfies with the statue. Then last Tuesday my car died on Aurora and I killed 40 minutes waiting on a tow, so I bought a dozen just to have something to do. Am I the only one who wrote off a spot in their own city for way too long before actually trying it?
Funny how the stuff closest to us is the stuff we judge the hardest. We do this with everything, not just food. Same way people who live in Seattle for 20 years have never been up the Space Needle, or how I walked past the same dive bar on my street for a decade assuming it was gross before a friend dragged me in and it turned out to have the best wings in the neighborhood. The closer something is, the easier it is to write off, because we figure we can always try it later. Then later never comes until your car breaks down or whatever. Then you finally go and feel a little dumb for waiting so long.
