TIL a 'clean' flue from a $79 Groupon sweep was hiding 2 inches of creosote
Last month I got called to a house in Cedar Rapids where the owner swore her flue had just been swept, and my camera showed a glaze layer thick enough to scrape with a coin. The guy she hired ran a poly brush down once, never touched the smoke shelf, and skipped the crown entirely. I spent two hours doing what should have happened the first time and sent her photos of the before and after. Cheap sweeps cost more in the long run, and I will die on that hill. What do you all tell folks who brag about finding a deal online?
