My 20 year old Robot Coupe died mid dinner rush last Friday and I felt like I lost a crew member
So there I was, 7:42pm on a Friday, 34 tickets on the rail, and my Robot Coupe just quits. No warning, no weird noise, just dead. This thing has been on my line since 2003, back when I worked under a chef in Chicago who bought it used from a deli that closed down. I took it with me through three job changes, and it never once let me down. Last Friday it did, right in the middle of a 180 cover night. I stood there holding a quart of garlic cream that needed one more pulse and I just froze for a second. We ended up doing it by hand with a whisk and a box grater, which worked but put us 15 minutes behind all night. I found a repair guy in the neighborhood who says the motor winding is shot and it might not be worth fixing. Has anyone here ever brought one of these back from the dead, or is it time to say goodbye and buy new?
