Warning: my $18 grocery week in Columbus turned into a $60 disaster because I bought the big bag of rice
Grabbed the 20 lb sack at Kroger two weeks back since it was 11 bucks cheaper per pound, but the pantry got damp, weevils moved in within 9 days, and I tossed the whole thing plus the beans I stored next to it, so check your seals or buy smaller bags.
Nine days though? That sounds less like a rice problem and more like a you-left-it-in-a-damp-pantry problem. I've had a 20 lb bag from Kroger sitting in my closet since like March and it's still fine, no bugs, nothing. Weevils don't just appear out of thin air, they usually come in on something already infested or show up when there's moisture around. Tossing the beans next to it seems like overkill too, unless you actually saw bugs in them. Sounds like you got unlucky once and now it's a warning for everybody.
