TIL stale bread makes better French toast than fresh bread does
I grabbed a loaf of day old bread at the discount rack for 79 cents at the Grocery Outlet on Tuesday just to save cash, and the French toast came out way better than when I use the soft fresh stuff. The dry pieces soak up the egg without turning to mush in the pan, so you get that crispy outside and custardy middle. I used 3 eggs and a splash of milk, nothing fancy. Does anyone else save their old bread for this, or do you have another use for the rock hard ends?
