TIL cooking dried beans in a thermos took me 4 months of failed tries before I got it right
Everyone on here swears by soaking beans overnight and simmering for hours, but my gas bill in Tucson was killing me so I tried the thermos method. First 3 attempts I ended up with crunchy centers because I poured the boiling water in and just walked away for 8 hours. It took me 4 months to figure out you need to preheat the thermos with hot water for 5 minutes first, dump that out, then add the beans and boiling water. Now I do a $1.29 bag of pintos in there at 7am and they are soft by dinner. Has anyone else had luck with this or am I just late to something obvious?
