My uncle told me to buy a whole chicken instead of parts and my grocery bill dropped $30 a trip
Honestly I thought he was just being old and cheap. He lives in Toledo and has been cooking for himself since my aunt passed, so I figured it was a habit thing. But I tried it for real 2 weeks back. $7 for a whole bird at the market near me versus $12 for the same weight in breasts. I roast it Sunday, eat the legs and thighs for dinner, pull the rest for tacos and soup, then boil the bones for stock. My last trip came in at $38 total for the week instead of the usual $65 or so. Tbh the first one I overcooked because I had no clue about the temp. Anyone got a simple way to use up the leftover meat so it does not taste the same by day 4?
