That $90 seam roller I bought but never use, old one still wins
Picked up a fancy cushioned grip seam roller from a supply house in Tacoma thinking it would save my hands on a big commercial job. Ended up going back to my beat up metal one after two rooms because the new one just doesnt roll true on seams. Anyone else waste money on gear that looks better than it works?
The part about it not rolling true on seams is the real issue, not the grip. A seam roller that wanders off the seam is worse than useless because you end up chasing it and pressing uneven. The cushion is probably the problem too, since you lose feel for where the edge is sitting. A hard metal wheel gives you feedback through your fingers, so you know right away if you are off the line. Your old one wins because it is probably broken in to your hand and tracks straight. New gear is not always better, it just looks better on the shelf. Did you check if the axle on the new one had any play in it?
