A guy in Tulsa told me my seams were showing because I was stretching too tight
I had a stretch job in a Tulsa duplex about four months back, and the homeowner walked the rooms with me after. She pointed at a seam near the hallway and said it looked like a scar. I was already packed up so I just told her it would settle. She called my boss anyway.
He came out, looked at it, and said the seam was peaking because I had overstretched that run. I always figured tighter was better. More stretch, fewer wrinkles, right? He said no, you pull past what the backing wants and it comes back at you, and the seam is where it shows first.
So now I use the knee kicker for the last bit only and let the power stretcher do the real work, and I stop when the backing stops giving. Did six rooms since then and not one callback. Anybody else get taught to lean on the kicker way harder than you should? I feel like half the old guys I know still do it the tight way.
