Was sure networking events were a waste of time until I met a guy at one who got me a $15k contract in 2 weeks

I went to a chamber of commerce breakfast in Tulsa last month just for the free coffee and ended up talking to a business owner who needed exactly what I do, and the whole thing made me realize I had been skipping real opportunities by assuming they were all just handshake fests.

Yeah that's pretty much how it goes... you never know who you'll bump into at those things.

Remember the time I accidentally sat down at a stranger's table at a conference because the lighting was bad? We ended up chatting for twenty minutes before I realized I was eating his lunch. At least he got a good story out of it, I guess.

Used to think conference food was sacred ground, but ngl that story kinda makes me hope I pull a similar move one day. Still feel bad for the guy though, losing his lunch like that.
